Best Frog Porridge in Singapore

Craving something uniquely Singaporean with bold flavours and a comforting bite? Frog porridge is a beloved local dish you shouldn’t miss. Served bubbling hot in a claypot, frog legs are cooked till tender in rich sauces like spicy gong bao (dried chili) or herbal soy, then paired with silky smooth porridge that absorbs every drop of umami goodness.

While it might sound exotic to some, frog meat is surprisingly healthy as they are high in protein, low in fat, and packed with omega 3 and amino acids. It’s a nutritious choice that doesn’t compromise on taste.

Not sure how it tastes? Think a cross between chicken and fish, mild, juicy, and incredibly tender. There’s no gamey flavour or fishy smell, making it an easy favorite even for first timers.

In Singapore, frog porridge is typically made using fresh frogs from local farms and regional suppliers, including trusted names like Jurong Frog Farm. Many of the shops below prepare their dishes fresh daily to serve up claypot comfort at its best.

Why Visit: A go to for supper lovers, G7 serves up rich gong bao frog legs with thick, flavorful sauce.

4.5⭐️ (good frog porridge, or this dish do taste good) 4.5⭐️ Kung Pao Frog Porridge – Priced at $25 for 3 frogs and $4.80 for the porridge. The frog meat is tender and fresh, with a great flavor—though the umami is slightly overpowering (possibly from MSG). Compared to Geylang Lor 9 ($27 for 3 frogs, $2 for porridge), this one is about $10 more expensive for the same two dishes due to extra gst or service fees. The umami in G7 is also stronger and lingers more after the meal, while Geylang Lor 9 has a more balanced umami mainly in the sauce. However, when mixed into the porridge, G7’s flavors balance well. 4⭐️ Garlic Kang Kong: Tastes good, better than average Tze Char downstairs.

Kitty and I visited Eminent Frog Porridge in Geylang, Singapore, renowned for its exceptional frog porridge dishes. The restaurant has earned the prestigious Bib Gourmand distinction in the MICHELIN Guide, highlighting its culinary excellence and value. Despite some mixed reviews on Google regarding the waiting time, we still highly recommend it to all frog and porridge enthusiasts, especially if you have some spare time, as the wait can extend to 1 hour and 30 minutes. There is also signage on the wall warning customers about the approximate waiting time. The price of the porridge is reasonable, as indicated on the receipt. Upon arrival, we waited 25 to 30 minutes for a table and an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour for our food to be served. We ordered the Frog with Dried Chilli (Gong Bao) and Frog with Spring Onion to accompany a pot of porridge, and they were both exceptionally flavorful. After sampling both dishes, Kitty remarked that the wait was worthwhile. She found the frog leg to be remarkably flavorful, with a unique sweetness that set it apart from other places she had tried. Kitty proclaimed it one of the best frog porridge she had ever tasted and highly recommended it to fellow frog porridge enthusiasts. The quality of the food justified the waiting time. Despite the bustling crowd, the comfortable ambiance, good airflow, and cool environment made our dining experience enjoyable. The delicious food and overall experience left us thoroughly impressed, resulting in our unanimous 5-star rating for Eminent Frog congee, even though we did not try their other dishes as the frog porridge is their signature dish. This is our personal experience with their frog porridge.

Why Visit: Cantonese style porridge with claypot frog legs and they even have exotic claypot gong bao crocodile meat.

Tiong Shian Porridge, a humble eatery nestled near the bustling heart of Chinatown in Singapore, offers a comforting and flavorful escape. My recent visit revealed a menu brimming with delicious options, but the true stars were the frog leg clay pot, the braised tofu, and, of course, their exceptional porridge. The frog legs were incredibly tender and succulent, bathed in a rich and savory sauce that was both complex and deeply satisfying. The clay pot presentation added a rustic charm to the dish, and the aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water. It's a dish that showcases the chef's skill and the restaurant's commitment to using high-quality ingredients. Often overlooked, the tofu here was elevated to new heights. It was perfectly cooked, with a delightful firmness that held its shape without being rubbery. The braising sauce was flavorful and aromatic, infusing the tofu with a depth of taste that was simply irresistible. It's a testament to the fact that even the simplest of ingredients can be transformed into something extraordinary with the right technique and care. And then there's the porridge, the restaurant's namesake and a true comfort food classic. The texture was perfect – smooth, creamy, and with just the right amount of thickness. The subtle flavor of the porridge itself provided a blank canvas for the various toppings and accompaniments, allowing each element to shine. It's a dish that warms the soul and leaves you feeling completely satisfied. The service at Tiong Shian Porridge was efficient and friendly, adding to the overall positive dining experience.

When you’re in Geylang, trying frog porridge is a must — it seems to be the most recommended dish in the area. I arrived around 7pm expecting a queue, but luckily there were still a few seats available. I had never tried frog porridge before and couldn’t quite imagine how it would taste, but it completely exceeded my expectations! The frog meat was incredibly tender and bouncy while the porridge was so smooth and soft. you could almost eat it without using teeth, haha! We also ordered cockles and grilled fish, which were both fresh and full of flavor. The dishes came out quite fast too, so there was no long wait.
